What Kochi Actually Hires For, By Employer Type
Salary bands tell you what a role pays. They do not tell you what the job is, and in Kochi the difference matters more than the numbers do.
Three employer types dominate here, and they screen for genuinely different things.
Services and delivery at Infopark. UST Global, Infosys, TCS, Wipro and the ecosystem around them. Client projects, not internal products. You will touch several stacks in a year, and nobody expects deep specialisation in any one.
Two things behave differently here than elsewhere. Certifications count, properly — procurement counts certified heads when bidding for work, so an AWS or CKA certificate does real work on your CV that it would not do at a product company. And internal movement is normal. If you are already inside one of these firms in a support, testing or development role, moving toward a DevOps project is a conversation with your manager rather than a job hunt.
Product companies. IBS Software is the obvious one, and there is a longer tail of smaller product firms around Kakkanad that people outside Kochi do not know about.
The work here sits closer to platform engineering. You are maintaining something the company owns and ships. That makes the screen tighter, and the questions go toward reliability rather than breadth. Expect to be asked what you would check first when something breaks, and expect a follow-up.
Captives and back-office at SmartCity. Global companies running operations from Kochi rather than building products here.
The infrastructure work in this group carries constraints most syllabi skip. Change approval rather than deploy-on-merge. Audit trails that exist by design. Data that cannot leave a particular environment. Least glamorous of the three. Frequently the most stable.
Prepare for the third group and the other two will still take you. The reverse is not true, and most people prepare in the wrong direction.
The Remote Arithmetic, Run Properly
There are more DevOps roles accessible from Kochi remotely than there are inside Kochi.
That is the single most useful fact on this page. It usually gets one line.
So here is the arithmetic nobody runs.
Take a Bangalore offer at ₹18 lakh against a remote role at ₹15 lakh from Kochi. On paper Bangalore wins by three lakh. Then subtract Bangalore rent for something comparable to what you would have in Kakkanad, add the commute in hours and fuel, and the gap narrows considerably — often to nothing, sometimes past it.
Some remote employers apply a location adjustment. Plenty do not. Smaller product companies and international clients hiring on contract frequently pay a flat rate regardless of where you sit.
And even where an adjustment applies, it is usually smaller than the cost-of-living difference it is adjusting for. Worth asking about directly rather than assuming.
Now the part that stops this being a pitch.
Remote hiring screens harder, not softer. An on-site junior gets the benefit of the doubt because somebody can sit with them for a month. Nobody can watch you learn remotely, so the evidence bar is higher and considerably more specific.
What that means in practice is a public portfolio that runs, with a URL somebody can open. Not a repository of tutorial code. Written communication that holds up, because clear README files and issue comments are most of how a remote team works, and it gets assessed more than candidates expect. And proof you finish things alone, which is demonstrated by having finished things.
If you are targeting remote from Kerala, build for that bar rather than the local one. It is higher. It is also the reason the roles are open to you at all.
The Gulf Question, Answered Honestly
A meaningful share of the people who ask us about this course are Kerala IT professionals working in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar. Nobody writes for that audience, so here is what is actually true.
On timings. The Gulf runs one and a half to two hours behind India. That makes it the easiest overseas audience to schedule for. A 7pm IST session lands at 5:30pm in Dubai. That is a workable evening, unlike the UK or US where the maths is genuinely awkward.
On whether the certificate helps. It does not, and it would be dishonest to suggest otherwise. An Indian institute certificate carries no recognition with a Dubai or Riyadh employer. If somebody is telling you their certificate opens Gulf doors, ask them which employers recognise it and watch what happens.
What does transfer is the same thing that transfers anywhere: a deployed system with a URL, infrastructure in code, and the ability to talk through what broke. Gulf employers hiring DevOps are hiring for AWS and Kubernetes competence, and that competence looks identical whether you learned it in Kochi or Dubai.
On visas and sponsorship. This course has nothing to do with either. No pathway, no sponsorship, no relationship with any employer there. If your goal is relocation rather than capability, a course is not the lever.
The honest version of the Gulf case is narrow: if you are already working there and want to move from a support or admin role into DevOps internally, this format fits your timezone and the skills transfer. That is it. That is still a real reason for a real number of people.
What to Build for an Infopark Interview
The rest of this page tells you what these roles pay. This section is about what gets you into one, which is a different question and the one people actually need answered.
Five things, in order, and you can build all of them from home.
- An app in a container, running somewhere public. Not a screenshot. A URL an interviewer can open during the call. This alone puts you ahead of most first-time applicants.
- A pipeline that deploys it on every push. GitHub Actions is fine. Jenkins is fine. What matters is that it exists and runs, not which tool you picked. Interviewers ask what you built, then why. Nobody has ever been rejected for choosing GitHub Actions.
- Infrastructure defined in Terraform. Not clicked together in a console. State handled properly, and at least one module you reused rather than copied.
- Monitoring that shows something real. A dashboard with actual metrics from your actual application, and one alert that has fired at least once.
- A one-page account of what broke. What happened, what you checked and in what order, what the cause turned out to be, and what you changed so it recurs less often.
That last one is the differentiator and almost nobody has it. Everyone applying for a first DevOps role can list tools. Very few can walk an interviewer through a failure they diagnosed themselves.
And it does not need to be a production incident. Break your own project deliberately. Fix it. Write it up.
That still counts, and the writing-up is most of the value. It is also an hour of work, which is a strange thing for a differentiator to cost.
